The execution of the plot in the series falls short of expectations despite its promising premise. Marketed as a healing drama, the initial intrigue piqued my interest. The first episode appeared to deliver on this promise, creating hope for a continuation in the same vein. Unfortunately, the introduction of a mystery subplot disrupted the overall flow and tone of the series. This diversion detracted from the character development, shifting the focus away from their emotional arcs towards resolving the mystery. Regrettably, the subplot did not significantly contribute the overall story or character development.
Main Characters
The series excels in its portrayals of realistic and multi-dimensional characters. Notably, Yeorum’s complex personality showcases her struggle to assert herself and succumb to others’ expectations. Although her submissive behavior may be frustrating at times, it provides a refreshing character from a typical confident and assertive female characters often seen on screen. Yeorum’s character arc effectively highlights the psychological struggles faced by individuals lacking self-confidence, fostering empathy for their plight.
Another leading character, Daebeom, stands out as an introverted and deliberate individual who values solitude above all else. The series presents a refreshing male lead from sidelining or overshadowing such personality types, emphasizing the value of self-awareness and individuality in a world that often rewards conformity.
The Chemistry
The interactions between the main characters, while occasionally endearing with their awkward moments and fumbled attempt at expressing feelings, lacked the depth and passion expected in a romantic relationship. Consequently, I found myself rooting for the characters to find happiness, but not necessarily with each other. Although their dedication to one another was admirable, it failed to translate into compelling romantic chemistry on screen
Supporting Characters
Despite mixed feelings towards the main characters, the portrayal of supporting characters, particularly the teenagers like Kim Bom, proved to be a standout element of the show. Kim Bom’s multifaceted and compelling depiction of a teenager who has endured abuse from her father serves as poignant representation of the struggles faced by numerous young people in similar situations. Her journey showcases resilience and inspires viewers to overcome adversity. Furthermore, her character adds depth and authenticity to the series, making her a standout element in the overall narrative.
Performance of the Cast
Seol Hyun’s portrayal of Yeorum captivates viewers from the very first scene, with her nuanced performance drawing the audience in. The role undoubtedly posed a significant challenge for Seol hyun, as it required conveying a wide range of emotions through subtle facial expressions and a piercing gaze. Her use of deadpan expressions and ability to convey complex emotions without uttering a word demonstrates her skill as an actress. While there may have been slight moments where her acting faltered, Seol Hyun’s overall performance remains impressive, especially in depicting Yeorum’s intense emotions. Her dedication to bringing this complex and intriguing character to life on screen is still commendable.
Im Si Wan’s performance as Daebeom is truly remarkable Despite the character’s introverted nature, he effectively communicate a wealth of emotions and thoughts through his expressive eyes. Im Si Wan stands out as an exceptional actor capable of portraying a character like Daebeom convincingly.
Impressive Supporting Characters
In addition to the main cast, two supporting actors delivered standout performances. Shin Eun Soo, in the role of Kim Bom, impressively conveys the character’s emotions with depth and authenticity, drawing attention with her resemblance to TWICE’s Jihyo. Her performance deserves recognition, and she is undoubtedly an actress to watch out for in the future. Likewise, Kim Yohan’s portrayal of Hwang Geunho is noteworthy, endearing, and memorable, building upon the impressive acting skills previously demonstrated in “Military Prosecutor Doberman”.
Furthermore, the young actor portraying Bae Joon in the series deserves commendation. Despite being relatively new to the industry, his charismatic presence captivated the hearts of many viewers, as seen in his role as Woo Joo in “Hospital Playlist”. His undeniable charm made him a scene-stealer and left a lasting impression.
Final Verdict
While watching the show, my interest wast not consistently at its peak. There were scenes that I wished would conclude swiftly, prompting me to watch them at 2x speed. Nevertheless, I was still able to comprehend the intended messages conveyed to the audience. Although I am not averse to slow-paced dramas, the series as a whole lacked the compelling nature of other shows with a similar pace, such as “A Piece Of Your Mind”. Notwithstanding a few notable lines, the lack of plot development diminishes the series’ overall impact. I would recommend it primarily to individuals who enjoy slow-paced dramas or seek a combination of relaxation. and mild thrills. While the series did not become a personal favorite, I did enjoy in certain aspects, particularly the side characters and, of course, the presence of Im Si Wan which helped endure some of the less engaging scenes.
